Championship rundown:
Open the Dream Gate Champion: Masaaki Mochizuki
Open the Triangle Gate Champions: Milano Collection AT, YOSSINO & Anthony W. Mori

Tanisaki has been added to Do Fixer’s segment in the opening video, for those keeping track.

All matches occur between December 25, 2004 and January 9, 2005

The show starts with a special one night tournament on Christmas day. Basically the entire roster split up into five teams of five, split mostly along faction lines, and fought to see who was best with nothing on the line. The Italian Connection teamed up with the Florida Brothers, Do Fixer brought SAITO on board because Naoki Tanisaki injured I’m guessing, Stalker Ichikawa and Super Shisa joined up with the trio formerly known as Crazy Max and now going by Waku Waku Fujii Land, while Final M2K and Aagan Iisou made up their own teams.

Milano Collection AT {IC}, YOSSINO {IC}, Anthony W. Mori {IC}, Daniel Mishima {FB} & Michael Iwasa {FB} vs. Magnum TOKYO {DF}, Dragon Kid {DF}, Ryo Saito {DF}, Genki Horiguchi {DF} & SAITO [Quarterfinal Match]
This is a strange tournament, as the structure of the thing led to more semifinal matches than quarterfinal matches. The Italian Connection and all of Do Fixer are dressed as TOKYO. SAITO and Mishima start. Perhaps because of his lack of hair Mishima has figured out how to escape an armbar. Do Fixer is about to pick up the win when referee Yagi is distracted by Iwasa’s cell phone going off. Kid hits Mishima with a TOKYO style hurricanrana in the corner. It gets 2 when Yagi’s phone rings. Kid breaks the phone and Yagi calls for the disqualification at 2:00 shown of 10:47.

Shuji Kondo {AI}, “brother” YASSHI {AI}, Touru Owashi {AI}, Takuya Sugawara {AI} & Shogo Takagi {AI} vs. Susumu Yokosuka {FM}, Masaaki Mochizuki {FM}, Second Doi {FM}, K-ness {FM} & Kenichiro Arai {FM} [Semifinal Match]
Mochizuki hits Sugawara with a missile dropkick. Owashi tries to clean house but Arai hits him with a dragon screw. Yokosuka hits Owashi with the Ashi Yokosuka. Mochizuki hits Kondo with the Sankakugeri. Arai hits a suicide dive. Aagan Iisou gangs up on Doi in the corner. Owashi hits a chokeslam for 2. YASSHI and Kondo hit the Big Boy for 2. YASSHI hits a red box attack. He hits it on Takagi by mistake. Doi gets the V9 Clutch for the win at 1:52 shown of 13:46. And that was the last we ever saw of Aagan Iisou in Dragon Gate.

CIMA {WFL}, Shingo Takagi {WFL}, Don Fujii {WFL}, Super Shisa {WFL}, Stalker Ichikawa vs. Milano Collection AT {IC}, YOSSINO {IC}, Anthony W. Mori {IC}, Daniel Mishima {FB} & Michael Iwasa {FB} [Semifinal Match]
Fujii and Shisa work over Mishima. Takagi also works the back. CIMA comes off the top with the same. Ichikawa crotches himself up top trying to help. CIMA holds AT as Fujii catapults Ichikawa into the Kancho. They hit the same move on Mishima, but he likes it. Iwasa hits the Gouwan and Mishima hits a backdrop driver on Ichikawa for the win at 1:32 shown of 14:55. Not the most successful first television outing for Waku Waku Fujii Land.

Milano Collection AT {IC}, YOSSINO {IC}, Anthony W. Mori {IC}, Daniel Mishima {FB} & Michael Iwasa {FB} vs. Susumu Yokosuka {FM}, Masaaki Mochizuki {FM}, Second Doi {FM}, K-ness {FM} & Kenichiro Arai {FM} [Tournament Finals]
Final M2K attacks before the bell. They work over Iwasa in the corner. AT and Mori hit a double back elbow on K-ness. AT ties K-ness in the ropes and hits a dropkick. Iwasa and Mishima double-team Doi for 2. Mishima wants to dance but Iwasa is all business. All of Final M2K beats on Iwasa. Yokosuka and K-ness mimic the Florida Brothers for 2, while still taking time to dance a bit. K-ness hits a backbreaker and puts on a half crab. Mishima makes the save with a giant ball. Iwasa puts up the invisible wall, stopping K-ness from throwing the ball at him. Referee Yagi also puts up the wall. K-ness throws the ball in his face anyway. Iwasa hits Yokosuka with a swinging DDT. Mishima hits a sick suplex on Doi and a knee kick on Mochizuki. The commentators can’t believe it. YOSSINO hits Mochizuki with the Sling Blade. His team locks Final M2K in submission holds. Arai spits in Mishima’s face and makes the save. Mishima rolls Mochizuki up for 2. Mochizuki kicks the crap out of Iwasa. Iwasa blocks a low blow and gets the Kuroneko for 2. Mishima tries to fake a chair shot from K-ness, but K-ness is smart to his game. AT throws both of them out of the ring. He and Yokosuka have a fantastic exchange leading to Yokosuka hitting the Jumbo no Kachi for 2. AT puts on the Italian Stretch #8. Yokosuka escapes by putting AT in the Paradise Lock. Mori makes the save. He rolls Arai up for 2. Arai hits a back suplex for 2. Yokosuka hits the Last Ride for 2. YOSSINO hits the elevated facebuster. Mori hits the northern lights suplex for 2. K-ness hits Doi by mistake and Iwasa hits the Gouwan. AT hits the elevated neckbreaker for 2. AT hits the Armani Shoe Exchange for 2. YOSSINO hits the Torbellino and puts on the Sol Naciente. Arai makes the save. Final M2K works over YOSSINO for 2. Yokosuka hits the Ashi Yokosuka and Doi hits the Bakatare Sliding Kick for 2. He hits the Doi 555 for the win at 11:40 shown of 18:07. That turned into a wild match. I guess Dragon Gate wanted to end 2004 with a bang.

After the match Doi and YOSSINO go back and forth until they decide to have a singles match the following night. Doi is coming for the Triangle Gate belts early in 2005.

Second Doi {FM} vs. YOSSINO {IC}
They trade chops to start. Doi hits an elbow for 2. He hits a backbreaker. He hits a dropkick. YOSSINO hits the Sling Blade. He hits a suicide dive. Doi blocks the Coumori and hits a dropkick for 2. He goes for his crab but YOSSINO gets to the ropes. YOSSINO puts on the From Jungle. He gets a sunset flip for 2. He hits a facebuster. He hits the shotgun dropkick for 2. Doi hits a spinebuster. He hits an elbow for 2. Doi blocks the Torbellino and hits the Bakatare Sliding Kick. He makes the mistake of not going for the cover and YOSSINO blocks the Doi 555 and hits the Torbellino. Doi counters the Sol Naciente to a roll up for 2. YOSSINO counters the V9 Clutch to a crucifix pin for the win at 5:18 shown of 13:11. This wasn’t quite the Dream Gate match from 2009, but then who expected it to be? They had a decent back and forth match here.

Kenichiro Arai {FM} & Raimu Mishima {FB} vs. Dragon Kid {DF} & Masaaki Mochizuki {FM}
There was a promo to set this up, but I’m not sure what the point of the match is. Apparently it was important enough for Mishima to bring back his T2P name. Arai and Kid start. Kid hits a hurricanrana. Mochizuki kicks Mishima around the ring. Mishima comes back with a dropkick. Arai hits a shinbreaker. Mochizuki kicks the crap out of Mishima. Kid hits a dropkick. Mochizuki hits a bodyslam. Mishima hits a high knee on both opponents. Arai sends Kid into Mochizuki’s crotch. He hits Mochizuki with a suicide dive. Kid puts Mishima in the Christo. Arai hits a headbutt on Mochizuki. Mochizuki hits the Sankakugeri. Kid hits Mishima with a stunner for 2. He hits a dropkick. Arai spits water in his face. He and Mishima double-team Kid for 2. He hits a diving headbutt for 2. Kid hits Mishima with a swinging DDT. Mochizuki hits the Sankakugeri for 2. Kid dropkicks Mochizuki by mistake. Mishima hits a back suplex for 2. Mochizuki hits a chest kick for 2. Kid hits Mochizuki by mistake again. Mochizuki luckily reverses a roll up from Mishima for the win at 8:03 shown of 11:29. This was very clunky, and I’m fairly certain only existed to set up Final M2K vs. Do Fixer, which in turn would set up Mochizuki’s first title defense. First we would get the pleasure of seeing Kid wrestle Mochizuki in a non-title match later on this show.

Crazy Max said goodbye to the world a couple weeks before this, after existing for most of Toryumon and all of Dragon Gate history. Shortly after the group disbanded Mochizuki beat CIMA for the Dream Gate title, so it was obvious CIMA, Fujii and Shingo Takagi were in need of a new direction. That new direction manifested itself in Waku Waku Fujii Land, a light-hearted group for the former Crazy Max wrestlers as well as Super Shisa. They introduced themselves to the world by coming out wearing huge horse masks.

CIMA {WFL}, Super Shisa {WFL} & Don Fujii {WFL} vs. Genki Horiguchi {DF}, Magnum TOKYO {DF} & Ryo Saito {DF}
Horiguchi starts by getting the crowd going with an H-A-G-E chant, but everyone gets frustrated with that and walks out on him. The match begins with Horiguchi and Shisa trading holds. Fujii comes in and hits a shoulder tackle. Saito hits a dropkick and a shoulder tackle. CIMA and TOKYO go at it until Horiguchi and Shisa hit them with dropkicks. Saito and Horiguchi double-team Shisa for 2. Horiguchi hits a moonsault for 2. TOKYO crotches his man Horiguchi up top and hits Shisa with a bulldog. He hits a missile dropkick for 2. Saito hits a bodyslam. CIMA attacks Horiguchi on the floor. TOKYO walks over Horiguchi to stare at CIMA. He hits Shisa with an elbow for 2. Fujii hits Horiguchi with a bodyslam. Shisa puts on an anklelock. He puts on an abdominal stretch. Horiguchi hits a hiptoss to escape. He hits a back elbow. Saito hits CIMA with an overhead suplex. TOKYO hits Fujii with a facebuster for 2. He hits a springboard dropkick and a suicide dive. Shisa hits a butterfly suplex on Saito for 2. Saito hits a powerbomb. Shisa hits a moonsault press. Fujii hits a lariat. CIMA hits the Perfect Driver for 2. TOKYO hits a hurricanrana. Horiguchi hits a missile dropkick and Saito hits a fisherman buster for 2. Horiguchi hits the Beach Break for 2. CIMA hits a superkick but Saito comes back with a German suplex for 2. He hits a dragon suplex for the win at 10:52 shown of 14:03. That’s HUGE. The match itself was nothing all that special, as they pretty much just ran through the motions (which in Dragon Gate are typically entertaining enough motions), but that finish is quite significant.

Masaaki Mochizuki {FM} vs. Dragon Kid {DF}
They’re billing this as a big deal because Mochizuki is the champion and Kid won the 2004 El Numero Uno tournament. It’d be a bigger deal if Mochizuki put the title on the line. They lock up and Kid slaps Mochizuki. Mochizuki comes back with a knee to the gut. He hits a bodyslam. Kid sends Mochizuki to the floor and tries to dive out after him but ends up eating a kick. Mochizuki punches the post by mistake. Kid works the arm. Back in the ring he dropkicks the arm. He puts on an armbar. He hits an armbreaker. He puts on the Christo. Mochizuki gets to the ropes. He hits the Sankakugeri. He hits a roundhouse kick. He hits the Sankakugeri for 2. Kid hits a stunner. He hits a DDT. He hits the Ultra Hurricanrana for 2. Mochizuki gets a roll up for 2. He hits a chest kick for 2. He hits the Twister for 2. He hits the Twister II for the win at 6:34 shown of 15:49. The crowd never bought for a second that Kid might beat Mochizuki, and were silent throughout. These guys tried hard, but without heat Kid’s offense looked silly, and things got awkward down the stretch.
Rating: **½

After the match Ryo Saito asks Mochizuki for a shot at the Dream Gate title. Mochizuki accepts, despite Saito not winning the Dream Key. Still, pinning CIMA is no small feat.

Milano Collection AT © {IC}, YOSSINO © {IC} & Anthony W. Mori © {IC} vs. Susumu Yokosuka {FM}, Naruki Doi {FM} & K-ness {FM} [Open the Triangle Gate Championship Match]
Without much pomp and circumstance Doi has started using his real name. AT and Yokosuka start. They trade holds on the mat. YOSSINO tags himself in, so Doi rushes the ring. K-ness and Yokosuka hit a double brainbuster for 2. Yokosuka hits the Last Ride for 2. Doi hits the Bakatare Sliding Kick for 2. YOSSINO gets a crucifix pin for 2. He blocks the Doi 555 and hits the Torbellino. He hits the Another Space for the win at 13:53 shown of 24:00. This was underwhelming overall, but mostly because I expected a lot. Everything they did hit on point, but it moved about a half a step slower than I expected. The finish was the right one as it kept the belts on the champions and continued the Doi vs. YOSSINO issue.
Rating: ***¼

After the match Doi has to be restrained so as to not attack YOSSINO. Saito get in the ring and shoves AT around. The two will fight on PPV, seemingly to see who will face Mochizuki for the title. In the back Mochizuki gives Doi some grief for losing the match for his team.

The show closes with the Italian Connection shilling Dragon Gate gear.
