This is another one of those shows where Magnum Pro matches happen on another promotion’s show. In this case it’s Dungeon Championship Wrestling, the same place Tozawa will wrestle Brian Cage in a couple of months.
Akira Tozawa, Jaysin Strife & Ryan Kidd vs. Tyler Bateman, Funny Bone & Joe Gacy
Notes on a few of the wrestlers: Bateman’s prematch promo was more bootleg Joker than either Tyler Durden or Patrick Bateman. It’s still a cool wrestling name though. Kidd is 15-years-old and looks it. Strife wrestled in a seven-hour Ironman Match one week before this. As much as I’m curious to watch that over the course of many weeks, the concept is so far beyond stupid it makes my brain melt. Others must have thought the same, because after a series of venue changes they had to hold the match in the owner’s backyard. There’s a video of the post-match masturbation on YouTube if you want to search for it. As for this match…
The heels attack before the bell, but our heroes come back with a triple dropkick. Bone and Strife fight it out on the mat. Gacy overpowers Kidd. He throws Kidd across the ring. He hits a shoulder tackle. If anyone sells for Kidd at all I’m going to be upset. Kidd hits a dropkick, as if on cue. Tozawa and Bateman fight on the mat. They trade back kicks. Strife hits a suplex and an elbowdrop. Tozawa hits a senton for 2. Bone hits Tozawa with a double stomp for 2. He dropkicks Kidd. He and Bateman hit a ton of back kicks. Bateman hits a senton for 2. Their chick valet attacks from the floor. Gacy hits a bodyslam for 2. Bone puts on a chinlock. He hits a falling powerslam for 2. Kidd gets worked over in the corner by all the heels for 2. Our heroes do the same to Bone for 2. Tozawa hits a bodyslam for 2. Strife hits a kneedrop and puts on a chinlock. He hits a running chop. Bone hits a hanging DDT for 2. Gacy hits an elbowdrop for 2. Strife hits Bateman with a back kick for 2. He misses a back flip kick, but hits it on the second try. Kidd goes for a crossbody on all three heels, but that would have been ridiculous so they throw him across the ring. Tozawa comes in and cleans house. That was a clever spot. He hits Bateman with a suicide dive. Bone kicks Kidd in the face. He hits Tozawa with a quebrada. Kidd trips Gacy and dives onto Bone. Gacy gets up and hits a an UGLY dive. Strife gets flippity floppy too. In the ring Strife hits Bone with a DDT for 2. Gacy hits an exploder for 2. Tozawa hits a big boot. He hits the side suplex for 2. Strife helps Kidd hit Bateman with a reverse hurricanrana. Kidd gets left alone in the ring with all the heels, who kick the crap out of him. Gacy hits a Superfly Splash. Bateman starts the pin but picks Kidd up at 2. He hits a lariat but Strife makes the save at 2. Tozawa hits a German suplex. Strife hits a brainbuster. They put Kidd on top of Bateman for the win at 21:41. They definitely didn’t need twenty minutes to tell the non-story we got here. That’s not to say it was bad, as the action was consistent and nothing at all stupid happened, it just wasn’t special and was kind of long. Well, the finish felt tacked on with a nail gun, but it was a good one in theory.
